French start-up Dropbird, backed by postal services company La Poste, is offering small retailers an e-commerce service that can aid them in their digital transformation. This offering, which until now was only available for major national brands, enables locals to order items online, then retrieve them from the automatic collection terminal of their choice. Since 2014, La Poste has developed a network of 320 such terminals across the country. As a company integrated into La Poste's incubator, Dropbird will participate in the Viva Technology event taking place in Paris on 15-17 June 2017 alongside 57 other start-ups. During this event, many innovations focused on personal services (e.g. personal finances, commerce, delivery and assistance for the elderly) will be presented. Founder Claude Le Brize estimates that 1,523 store owners in Rennes and the Petite Couronne (Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne) are likely to be interested in this service, which was launched in March 2017. Five have already signed a contract. For retailers, the monthly subscription costs EUR 49 (USD 54.85), plus a 7% commission on sales. For customers, the service is free for orders worth EUR 25 or more (EUR 1 for orders below this amount). the firm is in contact with Société du Grand Paris with a view to installing automatic pick-up terminals at the six SNCF train stations in the capital.
