France: How three e-retailers aim to be the fastest deliverers
E-Commerce Mag, 22 Aug 2017, online:-
E-retailers are fighting to be the fastest to deliver orders. Deliveries in one working day have surged by 50% between 2015 and 2016, for instance with the Amazon Premium offer at EUR 49 (USD 57.62) per year, or the Livraison Premier offer of Asos, or the Cdiscount subscription offer, at a yearly EUR 19. To keep up with such a pace, all three retailers have optimised their logistics system. Cdiscount has included the Manhattan Associates software suite for its order and warehouse management system (OMS and WMS). It has thus reviewed the organisation of its warehouses. It also uses light-duty vehicles between the Saturday at 10pm and the Sunday at 10pm, as trucks are not allowed to roll during those periods. Meanwhile, Amazon is to open its fifth distribution centre in France in Amiens in the autumn of 2017, while it will also open a 4,000m² urban distribution centre in Paris. Moreover, it is to open a second parcels sorting centre close to the Lauwin-Planque distribution centre. It aims to make the logistic chain flow better with entities intended to manage the last kilometre, with three new delivery agencies conducted by Amazon Logistics. Asos is to deploy its reporting system to the entire delivery chain. Cdiscount is to focus on customised delivery, even if that means the delivery may not be as fast, in the Paris region and 13 major French cities. It is also developing its deposit offer within Autolib stations.
