14.07.2017 Germany: DB Cargo changes course on cost-cutting programmeSüddeutsche Zeitung, 14 Jul 2017, online:-
The supervisory board of the German rail freight company DB Cargo has agreed to change the course of its previously reported cost-cutting programme. Instead of proceeding with plans which would have involved slashing around 2,000 jobs throughout the company, it now plans to increase the size of its workforce in certain business areas. It plans to add 700 new jobs in its operational business areas. It also plans to purchase 4,000 new freight wagons and 60 locomotives. The company is believed to have changed its plans in response to letters from business partners and unions. It still plans to cut a number of jobs in its administration departments, but the job cuts will be less severe than originally planned. It will make a full statement on the new plans in the near-future.
