Sweden: Avatar Logistics presents barge traffic concept

Swedish logistics company Avatar Logistics has showcased a new concept which could open up for container barge traffic in river Göta älv. The company held a presentation on 6 March, where a barge was shipping containers from the Port of Gothenburg to the Port of Vänersborg. Johan Lantz, CEO of Avatar Logistics, states that recent developments alongside Göta älv has increased the demand for new transport solutions, while the container segment continues to grow on an annual basis. He adds that several challenges need to be overcome before traffic can commence, including governmental changes to existing regulations as well as an introduction of the EU pilotage model. Meanwhile, Morten Brühl, CCO at Swedish port operator APM Terminals, states that barge traffic would be a great complement to road and railway transports.
