In Sweden, logistics company DB Schenker has partnered with commercial vehicles companies Scania and Volvo in a new research project aiming to reduce CO2 emissions via the use of connected convoys. The concept allows heavy trucks in the convoy to communicate via harmonised truck systems, where trucks from Scania and Volvo will be used in the daily operations of DB Schenker. Other participants in the project include the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) and the Royal Institute of Technology KTH. The project is expected to last until December 2019 with a total of EUR 4mn (USD 4.78mn) in funding.
