Sweden: Overtime ban in Port of Gothenburg conflict
13.03.2017 Sweden: Overtime ban in Port of Gothenburg conflictGöteborgs Posten, 13 Mar 2017, online:-
The rejection of the recent mediator bid by section four at the Swedish Dockworkers' Union (Svenska Hamnarbetarförbundet) in the ongoing conflict with APM Terminals in the Port of Gothenburg will result in further conflict and industrial action. This includes an overtime ban which will last from 13 March until the end of April 2017. Henrik Kristensen, CEO at APM Terminals Gothenburg, says that the overtime ban will mean that APM Terminals will operate at a capacity of between 75% and 80% on a daily basis. He further says that the company will suffer further losses and might be forced to lay off further employees in the near future. The conflict is difficult to resolve as trade organisation Ports of Sweden (Sveriges Hamnar), which represents APM Terminals, has a collective agreement with the Swedish Transport Workers' Union (Transportarbetarförbundet) and not with the Swedish Dockworkers' Union which represents workers in this conflict.
