Sweden: Traffic committee approves of 74 tonnes for trucks

The Swedish traffic committee has approved of the government proposal for allowing trucks of up to 74 tonnes. The committee has further altered the guidelines in the proposal, which opens up for heavy traffic on a larger part of the road network than previously proposed. The previous guidelines stated that the increased limit should only apply in areas where road transport does not compete with rail and maritime transport. This would mean that the new limit would apply to only about 8% of the road network according to previous estimations by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The committee has now opened up for an increase in this figure.
